THE CUP IS FAMILIAR.
LOOK ABOVE THE FACE.

You know the green siren. Does the crown finish with a star?

THE DISCREPANCY // 159

The Starbucks siren is familiar at a glance. Look away from the cup and rebuild the top of her crown. Is there a star at its centre? Reports of a missing-star memory focus on a detail small enough to escape attention but prominent enough to make the familiar face seem different once you notice it.

Archive lettering study. Follow the original references below.

FINISH THE CROWN YOURSELF

Draw only the shape above the siren’s forehead. How many points do you expect, and what sits at the top? Keep that sketch separate from the stars that appeared around the lettering in some older marks. The crown ornament and the outer border are different places to search.

FOLLOW THE LOGO THROUGH ITS YEARS

Starbucks’ official history traces the brown 1971 design, later green versions and the 2011 removal of the surrounding name. Its historical imagery provides distinct marks to compare. The star above the face is visible in the familiar green reference; a logo from another period should retain its date rather than stand in for every cup.

THE DETAIL THAT BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO MISS

Imagine picking up your usual cup tomorrow and finding yourself checking the crown before taking a sip. Would the star look newly obvious, or stubbornly unfamiliar? A design seen daily can still hide a small surprise in plain sight. After the first close look, the same ordinary cup may never return to being entirely background.
