THE DISCREPANCY // 062
The reported memory puts four people in President Kennedy’s Dallas limousine. The recorded motorcade has six occupants arranged in three rows. The added middle row is the specific detail that some viewers find unfamiliar.

BEFORE THE REFERENCE
Draw the seats and then name the occupants you recall. Which view did you learn from: a side photograph, moving film or diagram? Keep its angle. A passenger obscured behind another person and an empty place in a first sketch are different observations. Neither should be adjusted before the comparison is saved.
THE TRACE TO FOLLOW
The Henry Ford preserves the limousine and documents its history, including later alterations. A photograph of the museum car is therefore not interchangeable with a November 1963 frame. Follow the dated configuration and original motorcade material. Where does the middle row first become visible in the source you chose?
Keep your first version
Record the detail before opening a reference. Keep the exact object, release or edition with your comparison. A first recollection and a later discovery can be followed as separate traces.
