THE DISCREPANCY // 065
The familiar remembered warning begins with we’re. The film reference begins with you’re. One pronoun changes who is being addressed while leaving the larger boat, the frightened voice and the deck almost untouched.

ORCA / III — A tiny barrel has three scratches. Something else is below the surface.
BEFORE THE REFERENCE
Picture where Brody stands when he speaks and whom he is looking toward. Write only the disputed word before replaying the scene. A phrase used in everyday jokes can turn a warning to one person into a comment about everyone. Which version sounds like the voice in your first recollection?
THE TRACE TO FOLLOW
AFI identifies the line in its film record. Follow it into the scene and retain the surrounding reaction rather than a caption alone. If an earlier recording feels different, keep its release and time code. The tension of the moment survives either pronoun; the file is about the syllable at its entrance.
Keep your first version
Record the detail before opening a reference. Keep the exact object, release or edition with your comparison. A first recollection and a later discovery can be followed as separate traces.
FOLLOW THE SOURCES
Compare the particular object, recording or documented account.
Reported recollections and discussion; a separate trail from the reference.
