THE DISCREPANCY // 066
The commonly repeated line asks whether you feel lucky. In the famous speech, Harry tells the other man to ask himself whether I feel lucky. That switch can disappear when the speech is reduced to its signature challenge.

SIX / OR FIVE — Two tiny tally groups disagree. Counting is part of the question.
BEFORE THE REFERENCE
Recall the whole structure without writing out the monologue: who introduces the question, and whose imagined voice supplies it? The final address to the man remains recognizable. Keep the small pronoun separate from the scene’s threat and from another film using a related line.
THE TRACE TO FOLLOW
AFI’s Dirty Harry record gives the speech context. A later trailer or sequel can have another wording, so identify the source you hear. The shortened catchphrase has a life beyond the movie. Which exact pause or gesture makes your remembered version feel like dialogue rather than an imitation?
Keep your first version
Record the detail before opening a reference. Keep the exact object, release or edition with your comparison. A first recollection and a later discovery can be followed as separate traces.
FOLLOW THE SOURCES
Compare the particular object, recording or documented account.
Reported recollections and discussion; a separate trail from the reference.
