CASE FILE 143 // NAMES

YOU CAN HEAR THE NAME.
WRITE IT DOWN.

The coyote keeps falling. Does another letter follow him?

THE DISCREPANCY // 143

An ACME parcel arrives. A plan unfolds. The desert floor waits below. You know this coyote long before you need to spell his name, which is where the file opens: do you write Wile E., or give Wiley another letter before the initial? Chuck Jones’s official character page uses Wile E. Coyote. The longer spelling appears in reported memories.

THE NAME ON THE PARCEL

Picture the name on a label rather than hearing it spoken. Is the final sound carried by a Y, by the separate E., or somehow by both? Write it once at ordinary speed. Then place a gap before the initial and see whether the first part still looks complete.

AN INITIAL WITH ITS OWN SPACE

The official Chuck Jones character reference separates Wile from E. Alternate Memories records Wiley E. as the competing recollection. Those two written versions can sound remarkably close. The file concerns the extra letter; changes in punctuation, translations and the title of the larger cartoon series belong to separate comparisons.

THE LABEL YOU EXPECT TO ARRIVE

Imagine a crate reaching the canyon with a neatly printed address. If its name matches the official reference but looks unfinished to you, where would you add the missing mark? The machine inside can fail exactly as expected while the label outside leaves you watching for a different kind of slip.
